Every New Samsung Galaxy AI Feature Explained

After months of anticipation, Samsung has finally unveiled the S24 series. And while the devices may look similar to the previous generations, under the hood, the company has introduced some major changes with the new Galaxy AI. Here is everything you need to know about it –

What is Galaxy AI?

To put things into perspective, Samsung refers to Galaxy AI as a “comprehensive mobile AI experience,” allowing users to leverage AI for enhanced interactions, increased productivity, and improved creativity within the Galaxy S24 series.

However, before delving into the AI features, it is important to note that Galaxy AI utilizes both onboard and cloud processing for its functionalities. These include:

If you’ve previously used a Pixel device, the “Select” feature might ring a bell — it searches the current page and provides insights. Samsung takes this concept to the next level with Circle to Search. This feature allows users to long-press the home screen button within any application, and circle any piece of information to start a Google search, all without leaving the current app.

2. Generative Edit

Google’s magic editor introduced a new era of AI editing features, and now, Samsung brings its own take with Generative Edit. Similar to Google, Generative Edit lets users long-tap on a subject in a photo, enabling them to move, resize, or remove elements while generative AI fills in the rest of the image. However, it is important to note that this feature relies on cloud processing.

3. Live Translate

Despite years of research and development, translation has remained a challenging task, partly due to speed and inconsistent output. Therefore, to solve this issue, Samsung has introduced “Live Translate,” providing real-time, two-way translation capabilities for smooth communication during voice calls and text translations.

While this feature appears promising on paper—eliminating the need for third-party apps and performing translations directly on the device—it also faces challenges with inconsistent translations. Samsung, however, has committed to enhancing the feature through future updates.

4. Transcript and Note Assist

Picture yourself in a class or meeting, wanting to take some notes. You might record the entire session with the hope of extracting useful information later. What if there was a tool that not only recorded the session but also summarized the memos? Enter the Transcript Assist feature, which uses AI and Speech-to-Text technology to transcribe, summarize, and even translate recordings.

Similarly, the Note Assist feature simplifies note-taking by summarizing your notes with pre-made formats, all processed on-device.

5. Chat Assist

For users whose first language isn’t English, navigating the nuances can be challenging. This is where Chat Assist comes in, as it helps users craft appropriate messages with different tonalities based on the context of the communication.

Moreover, when using Android Auto, this feature not only summarizes incoming messages but also suggests relevant replies based on the ongoing conversation.

6. Instant Slow-mo

As the name suggests, this feature allows you to instantly slow down a normal video by long-pressing it. However, it is important to note that since it utilizes AI-frame generation to insert the remaining frames, the video can appear a bit rough at times, depending on the situation.
